AP7941 latest firmware breaks Bank 2 power

  • I have some AP7941s that were upgraded to the latest firmware. It *mostly* works except for bank 2 power output readings are blank. On the PDU LED output it's zero when it switches to bank2. The web interface reads zero, as well as SNMP readings:

    [SNMPv2-SMI::enterprises.318.1.1.12.2.3.1.1.2.1] => Gauge32: 62
    [SNMPv2-SMI::enterprises.318.1.1.12.2.3.1.1.2.2] => Gauge32: 58
    [SNMPv2-SMI::enterprises.318.1.1.12.2.3.1.1.2.3] => Gauge32: 0

    There are 3 of the latest versions that I can find and neither work (e.g. v3.9.2). The original firmware is this (I have this running on a working one):

    --wx-wx-wx 1 apc apc 1310720 Oct 12 2005 apc_hw02_aos_270.bin
    drwxrwxrwx 1 apc apc 0 Oct 12 2005 sec/
    --wx-wx-wx 1 apc apc 2555904 Nov 07 2005 apc_hw02_rpdu_273.bin
    -r--r--r-- 1 apc apc 41687 Jan 05 2021 event.txt
    -r--r--r-- 1 apc apc 69 Jan 05 2021 data.txt
    -rw-rw-rw- 1 apc apc 23159 Jan 05 2021 config.ini

    Does anyone have any older firmware to which I can downgrade these? Possibly AOS: 2.7.0/RPDU 2.7.3? I did a pretty exhaustive search and cannot find any older/archived firmware. Does this exists?

    Is there anyway to download the existing firmware files? The are marked as wx, not read, so I believe this is the reason for which you cannot download the files (ftp, xmodem, etc). Don't know if there's a maintenance mode or something that allows one to download these.

    BTW, when one was upgraded the power logs continued to run but the bank2 logs were zero. Prior to the upgrade they had values so it's not a hardware failure.

    Is there any other fix to this other than replacing them?

    Thanks.

  • I ran into something that might be relevant when trying to connect some supposed Gen 1 PDU's to Data Centre Expert.

    Usually Gen 1 PDU's use the 'rPDU' branch of the APC PowerNET MIB (.1.3.6.1.4.1.318.1.1.12) but I have come across some - all on later firmware - that use the rPDU2 branch (.1.3.6.1.4.1.318.1.1.26)

    Try using .1.3.6.1.4.1.318.1.1.26.8.3.1.5.1 for Bank 1, .1.3.6.1.4.1.318.1.1.26.8.3.1.5.2 for Bank 2 etc.

    If this works then it is probably worth considering moving to the rPDU2 branch if you are measuring individual outlet measurements too.

    To confirm - you cannot download the existing firmware from the PDU.

    I don't have a copy of early Firmware so can't help you there.  Good luck finding it if you go that route

    Regards

  • Thanks. No such luck though. The actual power values are not even written internally so not in the SNMP anywhere either. Even the web interface/telnet doesn't show. Look like my only route is to fine someone with some older archived firmware. It sucks that I cannot download it. It's right there but I cannot access it!
