Hi all,I have a AP7920 switched rack PDU which I have setup to receive an IP by DHCP only, without requiring a vendor cookie. The "Domain Name" got set automatically when the device received a DHCP response. (ex: domainname.com)Then I changed the "Host Name" from the default "APC" to "apctest".I can ping the device by its IP address. However, I cannot ping the device by its name "apctest.domainname.com"Is this a know issue ?All the documentation refers to a "DNS name" to access the device, is this the same as the "Host Name" or something different ?Thanks,Sav
The hostname on the unit is just how it refers to itself. You need to have whoever manages your domain name servers (DNS) add an "A record" for the unit as well as either 1) having whoever manages your DHCP server (may or may not be the same person / group as DNS) add a "reservation" or "fixed IP address" (terminology varies depending on the DHCP server) that matches the address in the DNS A record or 2) Configuring the IP address from the DNS A record as "static" on the AP7920.
Note that if you plan on using SSL on that generation of management card (firmware versions starting with "3"), when you access the unit by name as http://apctest.domainname.com it will tell you the connection is insecure and to click on the link to go to the secure page. That redirect is to the unit's IP address (for example, https://10.0.0.4) and not the hostname. So don't be surprised when that happens.
