Powerchute on Hyper-V

  • Hi,

We have several Servers running Windows Server 2012 R2 Hyper-V Core. These Servers
are connected to APC 3000 UPS's. In order to support this configuration correctly,
we need to install the PowerChutes software on the Windows Server 2012 R2 Hyper-V Core
Servers. As the Powerchute software seems to require a GUI to install, how do we install
and configure Powerchute on Windows Server 2012 R2 Hyper-V Core?

To install PowerChute  navigate to the directory you have saved the installer to and type

For PowerChute Network Shutdown on Windows 64 bit setup-x64.exe

For PowerChute Network Shutdown on Windows 32 bit setup-x86.exe

For PowerChute Business Edition on Windows  pcbesetup.exe

The installer will launch and you will complete the installation. Once the installation is completed from another system that has a web browser you will open the browser and type https://<IP address of the core system>:6547

  • Hi,

Thanks for the quick reply. So to confirm this will work on HyperV Core Server, (which only has a command line and no GUI)?

  • Yes

  • Thanks

  • Hi all,

Which version did you get? I can't find a way to install the server module, only the agent just as described in the attachment inside the msi. I can reach this version "PowerChute Business Edition v9.1.1 for Windows" marked as compatible on Hyper-V (only for the agent...) at "https://www.apc.com/us/en/tools/download/software_comp.cfm?sw_sku=SFPCBE911&id=125&swfam=125#". Anybody would help me please? I have to manage a SmartUps 2200.

    Thank you!

  • Hi,

The server and console modules are not compatible with Hyper-V server core. You can install the Agent and monitor from another Windows system running the server and console or monitor the agent via web interface from another system with a GUI.

To monitor the Agent form the web interface open a web browser and enter https://<system ip address>:6547

  • Today I have set up all the things and now the software is up and running. Thank you very much Bill for you quick and useful answer!

  • As an update, Version working fine on Hyper-V Server 2016 Core. Serial interface used. Viewed from client using  https://yourserver IP:6547
