APC UPS Fan and Display turn on randomly

  • I have a 5-6 year old APC XS 1300G BackUPS device that seems to switch to battery even when there isn't a event that occurs. The fan and display kick on, then off, and does this one or two more times. This occurs maybe every 5-6 hours.

It's certainly possible it's the battery, but I don't want to replace the batter until I can confirm that is the exact reason.

This occurs if there is and is not any devices powered-on or off. I've tried multiple outlets across two floors of my home. At this time, the load on the UPS unit is around 5-6%

I've turned off the green or eco mode as well.                                                   quickpayportal

There are 4 other UPSes in this home that do not have this problem.

I've also ran the battery down entirely to see if it just needed a full cycle, same issues once fully charged.

I suspect it is a side-effect of the Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR) feature. I've found that adjusting the voltage sensitivity to make it less sensitive to small fluctuations make it less likely to kick on at "random" times.

In my case, I traced the triggering event to the HVAC blower motor, swapped the breaker for the circuit serving the UPS to the other side of the breaker panel and the issue went away entirely.
