Is it safe to have tall tower APC UPSes on their side, horizontal?

  • Hello.

Is it safe to have tall tower APC UPSes (e.g., Back-UPS XS 1500 (model: BX1500G) and Back UPS Pro BX1500M) on its side, horizontally? I'd like to put one on the floor under the desk. It won't fit vertically since there's only 9" tall space. I noticed these UPSes have air vents on the sides though. :(

Thank you for reading and hopefully answering soon. :)

  • Try to put two 2" x 2" wood stripes one on each  side ( front to rear) to rise the UPS a bit without blocking the vents. Once the internal fan starts it should  be able to pull the air  through the vents.

I was told not to put its side because the air needs to flow correctly like heat rise. Is this true? Also, my room can go over 90F degrees too during very hot weather (no AC).

  • This high room temperature is not good for you tongue-out but also for the batteries and reduces their life.  Anyhow I guess the internal fan on this UPS should start when there is a rise on the internal temperature !!!!!
