I have an APC 1500 that needs to have a firmware upgrade. Upon reading the instructions it states that the UPS must be powered off. This being the case, we have production servers and switches that are connected to the UPS in question. Shutting it down would result loss of network for an entire campus. Does shutting down the UPS kill the power to the devices?
Unfortunately, yes, the devices plugged into the UPS will be turned off. Most Smart-UPS units that support firmware upgrades require the UPS output power to be turned off but the UPS brain/electronics remains on while the upgrade is applied. After the upgrade is applied, then the output power can be turned back on (which that may happen automatically, I forget).
