We have 10 Smart-UPS 1500 units and 2 Smart-UPS 1000 units. They all run the APC agent and are connected to Powerchute Business Edition 8.5 console.
The settings for each are :
When power fails begin shutdown at the runtime limit When power returns, reboot UPS at 15% battery
We have found that when the PC is plugged into the Group1 side that the settings are ignored - (when power fails and the UPS runs out of juice, the PC just turns off).
When we plug it into the non-Group1 side, the instructions are followed.
Why is this and can the instructions apply to either side?
I recommend you uninstall PCBE Agent 8.5 and install 9.2.1 that is available from this link FAQ FA304446
It should not make any difference what outlet group the systems are receiving power from. As long as the UPS is informing the Agent that the runtime has dropped below x the Agent should start the OS shutdown. If the UPS is not informing the Agent then the systems will drop. With the updated Agent you will have greater flexibility in the shutdown configuration and how the outlet groups react.
I am assuming the Smart-UPS are SMT1000s and SMT1500s. Those unit have a main outlet group and switched. Group1 is a switched outlet group. It will power down first before the main. The systems are designed that way since the main is similar to the main breaker in a breaker panel. If the main is switched off all circuits are switched off.
